The Sweetest Thing - Seattle Baby Photographer

I have been meaning to share this perfect little guy since his shoot in April. To me there is nothing sweeter than a newborn baby laying on a bed, basking in the sun. This 6 week old little guy wasn't interested in sleeping but gave me some wonderful eye contact during his shoot.

 

 

 

Twins in Tea - Seattle Sibling Photographer

I haven't had the chance to really sort through this shoot from yesterday but this image popped out at me and I had to share. I photographed these sweet and darling twins at the client's home. The setting was beautiful and Mom did a terrific job with the styling. Don't you just love the way they are holding on to each other here!

 

Technical info - f3.2, 1/400 of a sec, ISO 400.

Sitting Babies - Seattle Baby Photographer

I know you know I love the babies but sitting babies are my absolute favorite subjects. Between the age of 6 and 8 months babies are a dream to shoot. They sit in one place and are easily entertained. They are captivated by the reflection of themselves in my lens and even seem to be interested in what I am up to.

If you can do 3 shoots in the first year or so of your child's life, I would recommend newborn (under 2 weeks), 6-8 months (sitting) and 12-15 months (first steps). I know that is quite the commitment so I am in the process of coming up with a baby plan to make it do-able :) Stay tuned - I will post details soon.

My Girl at Lincoln Park - Seattle Child Photographer

I thought I would share one of my favorite recent images of Lane - taken at Lincoln Park. The image is by no means perfect - but the moment and the child is to me (Mom). I just love to take action shots of kids having fun and Lincoln Park is perfect for this type of imagery.

 
 
For those of you interested in technical information:

Focal length - 105mm, aperture - 2.8f, shutter speed - 1/320th of a second, exposure mode - manual (she was a bit underexposed but not deliberately, ISO - 800. The image was taken last October at about 6pm so there was only just enough light around to capture her soaring movement in focus!

End of Minis - Seattle Children's Portrait Photographer

Wow - that was a busy few weeks! I had an absolute BLAST shooting the minis and now that they are done I will have time to post some of the images over the next several days. Now I am not going to lie to you. Photographing a two year old boy in the studio can be quite the challenge but this seriously good looking little guy was kind enough to flash me some major smiles as he cut up the space. Mom did such an good job styling him to bring out his eyes that I couldn't do black and white here.

Now for the great outdoors! From now through the end of October I prefer to shoot at a park, urban locale or in home - if you have a child who is crawling and beyond. This is where we get the most and the best out of active little ones this time of year.

The first day of minis this Tuesday was a lot of fun. I have been posting so many babies lately that I thought I would show off the three year olds of the day. These kids are as adorable on the inside as they are on the outside and I just loved making these images with them.

Beautiful Family - Late Fall Shoot

 
It was drizzling during this shoot and if you look closely you can see how drenched the park was this day. We put baby on a blanket and covered it with leaves, I retouched the red runny nose - and the product turned out to be one of my favorite outdoor shoots of the season. Here is a little look at some of the many beautiful images we caught in the perfectly diffused light of a cloudy and wet fall day.

This is another late fall session. I photographed these gorgeous siblings at the steps of Holy Rosary and the Dakota Substation. You may recognize the little one from earlier in the year...

 

 

Urban Shoot - West Seattle Photographer

Here are a few more images from late last year - these taken on a cold day in November. I adore these really cool kids. Their parents were up for some urban images so we shot a little in the studio then took it to the streets. The first image was taken outside Easy Street Records looking back at the Junction 'all walk' to the Cambell Buiding - the oldest surviving building in West Seattlle - home to Cupcake Royale and my studio.

Wow - it has been a long time! I am going to catch up on my posts over the next couple weeks and show a bunch of images taken during the Holiday Season - starting with this Lowman Beach shoot from the end of October.

I must say I love shooting outside during the colder months - the light is so pretty and I love the textures and patterns of layered clothing. This Mom did an awesome job styling the family! I usually love black and white on this beach but the pop of fresh skin tones against the warm and cool greys wins for me. What do you think?

 

NAME MY STORE AND WIN A $500 SHOPPING SPREE!

Well, it’s been 7 months since I opened my studio and retail store in the West Seattle Junction, and while the shop is going like gangbusters, I feel like it needs it’s own name to differentiate itself from the photography studio with which it shares the space.

 

I can admit that my forte is interpreting the world visually, and not through the written word (someone else is even penning this blog post for me), so I’m looking for help to find just the right name for the store.

 

To that end, I’ve launched a naming contest, with the winning entry receiving a $500 gift certificate to the shop. I’m hoping this will stimulate your creative flow and entice you to spend some time ruminating on just the perfect name to capture the independent, modern and fresh spirit that I've endeavored to personify in the store.

 

The contest is running now through January 1, 2011. Just jot down your entry (or entries, no reason to limit yourself to just one idea) in an email and send it to me at [email protected]. I’ll announce the winning name on January 5, 2011 after I’ve had a chance to sit with the options a while.

Some More Recent Lincoln Park Images

If you are tossing up between a studio or park shoot for your toddler right now - my advice is to go with outside - it's just beautiful out right now and little kids really respond to a natural environment. A couple were actually taken at the parking lot.
